Scope and accountability

This policy applies to personal information handled by Aeviant Biosciences Inc. through this website, the writing-updates subscription and email inquiries. It does not apply to a third-party website after you follow an external link.

Aeviant’s Privacy Officer is responsible for the company’s privacy practices and for reviewing privacy questions, requests and complaints. The Privacy Officer can be reached at [email protected].

Information collected through the website

When a page or subscription endpoint is requested, the services that deliver and protect the website may process an IP address, browser and device details, requested address, timestamp, referring page and security-event information. This information is used to deliver the requested page, limit abusive requests, investigate errors and protect the site.

The inquiry forms do not submit their fields to a website database. They prepare a draft in the email application on your device. If you send that email, Aeviant receives the name, reply address, organization, role, inquiry category, message, attachments and other information you choose to include.

The writing-updates form sends the email address you enter and the requested subscription status to Aeviant’s subscription provider. The form also includes a required opt-in confirming that you asked to receive those emails.

How Aeviant uses personal information

Aeviant uses inquiry information to read, route and respond to the message, continue a requested discussion and keep records needed for the resulting business communication.

Aeviant uses a subscriber’s email address to send newly published writing and material company updates. It does not add an inquiry sender to that list unless the person separately subscribes.

Technical information is used for website delivery, security, rate limiting, troubleshooting and service administration. Aeviant does not use the current website to build behavioural profiles, and it does not sell personal information collected through the site.

Providers and processing locations

Aeviant uses service providers to host and protect the website, operate company email and manage requested writing updates. Hosting and security providers process the technical request information described above. Resend stores subscriber email addresses and subscription status and supports delivery and suppression of requested emails. Aeviant’s email providers process messages sent to company addresses.

These providers may process information outside British Columbia or Canada. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be accessible to courts, law-enforcement bodies or other authorities under the laws of that jurisdiction.

Aeviant remains responsible for personal information under its control when a provider processes it on Aeviant’s behalf.

Cookies and local browser storage

Aeviant does not use advertising cookies, advertising pixels, cross-site tracking or client-side analytics on the current website.

The site stores two preferences in the browser on your device: whether the privacy notice was dismissed and the text-size choice in the writing reader. Neither preference contains an account or visitor identifier, and the site does not transmit either value to Aeviant.

A hosting or security provider may use limited technical storage when required to deliver or protect the service. Non-essential analytics, embedded media or advertising technology would require an updated notice and any consent required by law.

Consent and writing updates

A writing-updates subscription is optional. Aeviant sends those emails only after the subscriber checks the opt-in and submits an email address.

A subscriber may withdraw consent using the unsubscribe method in an email or by writing to Aeviant. Aeviant processes the request without delay and no later than 10 business days after receiving it. A limited suppression record may remain so that the address is not added again inadvertently.

Retention

Inquiry emails and related correspondence are retained while Aeviant is responding and for any further period reasonably required for the resulting business record, legal obligations or the protection of legal interests.

Subscriber information is retained while the subscription is active. After an unsubscribe request, Aeviant or Resend may keep the limited suppression record described above.

Technical logs are retained according to the operating and security periods of the provider that creates them. Aeviant deletes personal information, or removes its association with an identifiable person, when the purpose for keeping it has ended and retention is no longer required for a legal or business reason.

Safeguards and privacy incidents

Aeviant uses administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the information handled through the website. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

If Aeviant suspects unauthorized access, use, loss or disclosure of personal information, it limits further access to the affected information, account or service, determines what information and people are involved, records the response and makes any notification required by law.

Access, correction and complaints

Subject to applicable law, a person may ask whether Aeviant holds personal information about them, request access to or correction of that information, withdraw consent to an optional use or raise a privacy concern by writing to the Privacy Officer at [email protected]. The request should identify the person and describe the information, correction or concern. Aeviant may verify identity before responding.

The Privacy Officer records and reviews privacy complaints and communicates the result. If a concern is not resolved, the person may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia. A matter governed by federal private-sector privacy law may also be brought to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Policy updates

Aeviant updates this policy when the website’s collection, use or disclosure of personal information changes. The effective and review dates identify the current version. If a new practice requires consent, Aeviant will obtain that consent. Continued browsing will not be treated as agreement.
